Day 1 - Arrival
Upon arrival at the Buyant Ukhaa Airport in Ulaanbaatar, you will be met by your guide and transferred to your hotel in downtown. After check in, unwind yourself in the hotel after jetlag. We will enjoy an impressive performance of traditional music and dance at 6 pm followed by Welcome Dinner.
Day 2: Ulaanbaatar Sightseeing
Today we will do sightseeing in the city, visiting the Mongolia's biggest Monastery Gandantegchilin luckily survived the Stalinist purges in 1930s. Further we will visit the Winter Palace Museum of Bogd Khan - the last Holy King of Mongolia. After the museum we will go to the Zaisan Memorial which lies to the south of the city and offers the best views of Ulaanbaatar like on a palm. It is a foothill of the Bogd Khan Mountain, oldest nature preserve in the country, perhaps in the world, since 1778. After lunch, we will visit the National Museum of History. The rest of the day will be free at leisure. Dinner will be at the hotel.
Day 3 – Khugno Khaan
Today we leave the bustling city behind for the Mongolian countryside. After about 3-hour driving we will reach Elsen Tasarkhai, or "Piece of Sands". This stretch of sand is a long strip that originates in the Gobi and stretches all the way into the central aimags of Mongolia. We will hike around the Mount Khugno Khan visiting a small monastery at its southern foot and, if lucky enough, we might spot ibex and other wildlife.
Day 4 - Orkhon Waterfall
Today we will continue our journey to the narrow valley of Orkhon River, which flows through spectacular volcanic landscape. The impressive waterfall was formed by a unique combination of volcanic eruptions and earthquakes about 20,000 years ago. We will visit Tuvhon Monastery in the thick forest. Zanabazar – the first Bogd founded this site in 1653 and lived, worked and meditated here for 30 years.
Day 5 - Karakorum
Glorious Erdene Zuu Monastery built in the 16th century from the ruins of the ancient Mongol capital of Karakorum welcomes visitors from all over the world. Discover the surrounding area including the Turtle and Phallic Rocks.
Day 6 – Ugii Nuur
Today we will drive north to Ugii Nuur, a small lake of 25 sq. km at an altitude of 1337 m above sea level. It is a wonderful place for birdlife – cranes and ducks, to name just a few species, migrate to the area around late April. The lake is renowned for its fishing. En route to the lake we will visit the ruined citadel of Khar Balgas (Black Ruins), the old Ordo-Balik was the center of the Uguir Khanate which ruled Mongoolia from 745-854. Explore the area on horseback.
Day 7 - Hustain Nuruu
Our journey will continue to the Hustain Nuruu National Park. This over 50,000 hectare reserve protects the one and only species of wild horse, the Takhi, or better known in the world as the Przewalski Horse, which is being reintroduced to Mongolia since 1993. This Birch Tree Mountain range is home to about 50 species of mammals including red deer, roe deer, wild boar, white-tailed gazelle, grey wolf, Eurasian lynx, badger and more. Over 450 species of vascular plants grove here and 200 of them are medicinal herbs. We will stay overnight at the Hustai Tourist Resort and visit the Information Center.
Day 8 – Ulaanbaatar
Today we will drive back to Ulaanbaatar. In the afternoon we will visit the Museum of Natural History with a rich collection of dinosaur bones, skeletons and eggs found in the Mongolian Gobi. After lunch we will visit Zanabazar Fine Art Museum that has a world-class collection of paintings, needle works, carvings and sculptures. The rest of the day is free for leisure. You may do some shopping. Pick up some cashmere, souvenirs and other excellent items that will remind you Mongolia back home. Dinner will be at the Chingis Khaan Restaurant with live music and full of atmosphere.
Day 9 – Departure
After breakfast at the hotel you will be transferred to the airport for your departure. Whisper Bayartai to Mongolia and have a nice journey back home. Tell your fascinating stories about Mongolia to you family and friends. You are always welcome to Mongolia!
